Grape Jordan 5 Release Date 2025

The historic year of Retro continues as Jordan Brand celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a plethora of Retro release blockbusters. This one’s extra special: not only is the Air Jordan 5 is not only celebrating its own three-decade milestone, this “Grape” colorway is launching for the first time as a re-issue with Nike Air branding on the heel.

A Brief History Of The Grape Jordan 5

Like many of the Air Jordans of the late 1980s and the 1990s, the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” has strong ties to Michael Jordan’s on-court prowess as well as as cultural fabric of the 1990s. While not the first non-Chicago related colorway, the Grape 5s broke through the wall with its appearances on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; this natural appearance on the feet of celebrities pushed the popularity of Air Jordans into the stratosphere.

The Air Jordan 5 “Grape” originally launched in 1990; the first-ever Retro release didn’t occur until sixteen years later, donning the Jumpman logo at the heel. It arrived once more in 2013 (still with the Jumpman), while a unique laceless edition honoring Will Smith’s sitcom dropped in 2018. Although that pair did in fact feature Nike Air on the heel, it is not considered a legitimate Retro release.

The popularity of the Grapes led to some off-shoot colorways such as the “Black Grape” and the “Alternate Grape”. Each of these hinged on the purple/aqua midsole with different colored uppers.
